I've been following this for years. They talk about this on Coast To Coast Am quite often. Unfortunately you have to subscribe to gain access t o the archives. I think you can listen live for free though? If they do another show on 2012 I’ll try to update you. The show is on late though. Many sleepless nights.

See here...

Examples:
Whitley's New Book
First hour guest, author Whitley Strieber discussed his forthcoming novel, 2012: The War for Souls. The film rights to the book were recently sold to Warner Brothers. For an exploration of his views on 2012 and a possible catastrophe coinciding with the end of the Mayan calendar, see the latest entry of Whitley's Journal.

Dr. Gaspar explains how the Mayan Calendar is based on the two most prominent ice age cycles, thus its 2012 end date will herald in an ice age. Nostradamus, Revelations, and Native American and other animal symbologies will line up in a perfectly constructed theory to show that the ancient sages knew about these apocalyptic recurrent cycles. A possible polar axis shift is waiting for us in the next 5-12 years to end global warming.

Some believe that the end of the Mayan calendar corresponds with the end of the Kali Yuga cycle. This marks the “new beginning”.

Oddly enough, our ISU extension climatologist thinks Al Gore is an idiot. He says we need to do what we can to stop warming the planet, but most of the warming is part of a long term cycle. He thinks the earth will begin to cool again after 2020.

Another possibility is the theoretical chance the Gulf Stream, will shift if too much Arctic ice melts and more precipation falls in the North. It could plunge Europe and parts of our east coast into mid Canadian conditions. That could happen in a matter of a few years and last for several years to a thousand.

Gra-seeeeeee ... do not prejudge this articcle by the coments of doom from others who have read it. Some from folks who didn't read it either but are commenting on other's comments.
It does not say a single thing about the end of the world.

It merely says that the Mayan Calender ends on that date. ; That the earth will have moved to the center of the Milky Way galaexy and that there will be a large "solar wind" storm on that day .... Certainly NOT anything so astronomical, it will lead to the end of the earth.

See what gossip does? And ... you fell for it.

Not so kweepy after all.

Chuck, did you intend to post a specific article? The link that you provided only brings you to the homepage of the website.

On the page that you had posted there are indeed references to articles that associate 2012 with the apocalypse. This is probably in part where Gracie and others are getting this from.

Example....

With humanity coming up fast on 2012, publishers are helping readers gear up and count down to this mysterious — some even call it apocalyptic — date that ancient Mayan societies were anticipating thousands of years ago. Read Article >>

There are many theories surrounding 2012. Some positive, some negative. Some believe that this will represent a new age of enlightenment for mankind.

Check out this crop circle.

And this one...

A striking resemblance to the Mayn calendar.

People often wonder how such an ancient civilization could possess such advanced knowledge of planetary alignments and such. It has been said that their calendar is even more accurate than the one that we use to day. Perhaps they got a little help from the sky?

Plunge people in Europe and your East Coast into mid Canadian conditions
I'm guessing they would consider that the end of the world , for them.

We weren't around to know, but I think the ancients made the calendar etc themselves. Palentolgists have found a bone over 25,000 years old that has what appear to be a record of moon phases. Another similiar bone is much older.

In west China lie graves of blond, blue eyed mumified Europeans. They were able to perform surgical operations and stitched up the wounds. They may have been ancestors of the race that produced Amazons.

Our ancestors had almost an unimagionable amount of time to develope what they did.

Stuff like these ancient stuff interest me, just not when they're predicting the end of the world. For several years, every New Year's Eve, they would show on TV Nostradamus' predictions. After watching once, I decided never to watch or read about his predictions again.
